After making his debut for the Hobart Hurricanes earlier in BBL|14, Marcus Bean will be moving to the Apple Isle full-time, after penning a two-year deal with the Tasmanian Tigers.
The towering left-arm quick, who was plucked out of Queensland Premier Cricket competition by Hurricanes Assistant Coach James Hopes, is excited to be signing with the Tasmanian Tigers.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Tigers squad for the 2025/26 season!
“It’s a privilege to be able to represent Tasmania and play alongside the amazing talent that this squad has to offer,” said Bean.
The towering 210 cm Queensland native, debuted against the Brisbane Heat in BBL|14 last season, taking the key wicket of Nathan McSweeney in his first over of professional cricket.
With the ability to get extra bounce out of the wicket, and to get the ball to swing with his action, Bean will be hoping to use his unique skillset to take wickets on a Ninja Stadium wicket which can be conducive to pace bowling.
Bean will be familiar with the Tigers' colours after being selected in the Tasmanian Second XI earlier in the 2024-25 season, taking two wickets against South Australia, and playing for Lindisfarne during the Cricket Tasmania Premier League.
In the Queensland Premier Cricket competition, Bean played for the Northern Suburbs Cricket Club in their men’s first-grade team where Hurricanes Assistant Coach James Hopes is one of their coaches.
Cricket Tasmania High Performance General Manager, Salliann Beams spoke to the potential of Bean.
“We are excited to have ‘Beany’ down in Tasmania full-time, he is a left-arm quick with a lot of potential.
“We saw during the BBL the impact that he can have with the new ball, taking a wicket in each match he played, but I think it is just as important that we expose him to the rigours of the professional game.
“Bringing him down to Tasmania across the whole summer will give us another pace bowling option in our line-up, and the ability to work with our coaches to help harness some of the raw talent he already possesses,” said Beams.
Bean joins Riley Meredith as Tasmanian Tigers players who have penned a new deal ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Further announcements about the Tigers domestic list will be made this week.
