The Tasmanian Tigers return to WNCL action this weekend in Allan Border Field against the Queensland Fire.
After some mixed results so far this season, the Tigers will need to win all their matches over the next six to ensure they are a mathematical chance to make the WNCL Final once again and continue their quest for a fourth consecutive final.
Their last two matches against the NSW Breakers resulted in losses, so the Tigers will be looking to make amends for their disappointing start to the 2024-25 season.
Two of the Tigers players come into this week’s match after playing for the Governor General’s XI against England in Sydney, Heather Graham and Amy Smith, which unfortunately resulted in no result due to rain, but great for the Tigers program to have two players selected in this match.
The Tigers are tasked with taking on last year’s finalist, Queensland Fire, who will have several former Australian players in their line-up and will be after revenge for the 2023-24 WNCL Final.
Tasmania’s squad for this match has one change from their last match against NSW, with young leg-spinner Beth Lane replacing Callie Wilson in the travelling thirteen, who has a lower leg injury.
Lauren Smith remains unavailable for selection due to a calf injury sustained before Christmas, while Hayley Silver-Holmes and Rachel Trenaman continue their returns from long term injuries and won’t be fit to play against the Fire.
The Tasmanian Tigers play two games this weekend, with the first on Sunday and the second on Tuesday before returning to Hobart for their final four matches of the regular season.
Their travelling squad of thirteen for Brisbane consists of:
Nicola Carey
Julia Cavanough
Maisy Gibson
Heather Graham
Ruth Johnston
Beth Lane
Lizelle Lee
Emma Manix-Geeves
Tabatha Saville
Amy Smith
Naomi Stalenberg
Molly Strano
Elyse Villani (C)
