CTPL Round 2 Preview

Clarence will be searching for redemption from last weekends loss to New Town as they host University on Saturday.

The Roos are likely to be without much of the stellar bowling attack that they rolled out against University, but have more than capable replacements hidden in the wings.

Coach Harry Allanby in confident his side will manage the losses.

“With the state guys, I reckon we’ll lose at least two of them,” Allanby said.

“We’ll look to bring Lachie Borsboom and Blake Garrett, who played a huge role with our white ball stuff, in, and hopefully they can get the job done this week.

“I’m confident we’ll be able to bounce back this week.”

Allanby also remains steadfast in his faith that Clarence’s batsman will find form.

“From a batting point of view, we’re trying to stick to our process,” he said.

“The boys have worked pretty hard all preseason, so we’ll stick to our process and back those guys in that have got the job done before.

“Most clubs don’t have a perfect preseason.

“It’s about those teams that adapt quickest and do the basics well.”

University is also trying to recoup following an opening round loss to Kingborough.

South Hobart-Sandy Bay opens its campaign against Greater Northern Raiders on Saturday.

The Sharks will travel to Launceston without star bowler Gabe Bell, who is away with Tasmania, but will remain confident they can pick up the points away from home.

Greater Northern are aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time since February earlier this year.

Reigning premiers Kingborough could also begin the 2024-25 season 2-0, as they meet New Town at the Twin Ovals.

The Knights won in comfortable fashion last weekend, defeating University by eight wickets.

Zak Honeybrook will be the key man as he looks to continue his good form for Kingborough, coming off a five-wicket haul against the Lions.

Lindisfarne will host Glenorchy in a match between two teams who are looking to secure their first wins of the season.

The young Lightning side fell to a supremely confident North Hobart but will be hoping to have a better showing this Saturday.

Glenorchy will rely on the supreme talent of Hurricanes star Nikhil Chaudhury in order to kickstart its season.

In the women’s competition, an enticing double header between Clarence and North Hobart in back-to-back T20’s takes place on Sunday.

Last season’s premiers North Hobart will look to begin its season with two victories, while Clarence aim to upset the hosts.
