After making the move south to Tasmania on a rookie deal in 2015, McDermott’s game has flourished at the Tigers, establishing a reputation as a prolific top order batter across all formats of the game – specialising in the shorter formats of the game - as well as a handy wicketkeeping option.
At the first class level, after making his Tigers debut in 2016, McDermott went on to play 49 matches for Tasmania, totalling 2483 runs at 32.24.
In one-day cricket for the Tigers, McDermott has scored a remarkable 1374 runs at 45.80, which places him as Tasmania’s 13th all-time List A run-scorer, despite having played just 32 matches.
Cricket Tasmania is thrilled that Ben gets the opportunity to continue his cricket whilst himself and his young family are located closer to the immediate support of their family and loved ones.
We wish Ben, Mandy and Sadie all the best in the next phase of their lives, and look forward to welcoming them all back to Tasmania ahead of BBL|13.
