The Tasmanian Tigers travelled to the warmer climate of Queensland this week, to participate in practice matches against various other states around the country.
The male Tasmanian Tigers followed on from their strong performances in Darwin, with a two-day game starting on Monday against Queensland.
Gabe Bell was the pick of the bowlers with 3/27 from his 13 overs, and former maroon, Matthew Kuhnemann, and Kieran Elliott took two wickets each, as Queensland’s innings finished at the end of Day One at 8/397.
On Day Two, our skipper Jordan Silk, clearly in great form following his winter (or English Summer) in the UK, scored 127 off 169 balls, but lacked support from his teammates with no other scores over fifty and were bowled out for 292.
After a rest day on Wednesday, the Tigers boys returned to the field to play Queensland in the first of two 50-over matches.
Gabe Bell was once again Tasmania’s best, taking 4-70 off his 10 overs, and Bradley Hope, who had also been playing in the T20 Max in Brisbane, took two wickets from his 7 overs.
Chasing a tough score of 401, was always going to be a challenge, but Jake Weatherald got Tasmania off to the start they required scoring a quickfire 57 off 37, before Hope scored 51 off 38 with 10 fours, as Tasmania were bowled out for 217 after only 30.1 overs.
A large portion of the women’s squad were already in Queensland for the T20 Max, but the reminder of the squad travelled to the Sunshine Coast for the next week.
Beth Lane, the buddying leg-spinner, opened the bowling for Tasmania in their first match on Thursday against New South Wales and took three wickets, as fellow spinners Molly Strano and Maisy Gibson also took multiple wickets as they restricted the Blues to 178 runs.
Tasmania chased down the total with 14 overs to spare, thanks to a fifty from Molly Strano, and thirties from Naomi Stalenberg and Lauren Smith.
The female program takes on Victoria in a T20 tomorrow morning, before playing South Australia in a 50-over game on Sunday, and two more T20’s on Tuesday against NSW and the SACA’s.
The male program has one further 50-over match tomorrow against Queensland, and will be looking to finish their pre-season tour with a win.
