Cricket Tasmania can announce that Andrew (Andy) Gower has been appointed as the new Head Coach of the Greater Northern Raiders Female program.
Gower has been involved with Tasmanian cricket after a 25-year playing career for various clubs across the North of Tasmania, including South Launceston, Mowbray and Launceston.
He represented the Tasmanian Second XI in several games during his career, before becoming a Life Member at Mowbray Cricket Club where he won four A-Grade premierships.
Following his playing career at Mowbray, Gower transitioned into coaching, where he was the senior coach at various clubs around Northern Tasmania from 2008 – 2023, winning two A-Grade Premierships at Mowbray in 2017 and 2018, and a ‘clean sweep’ for Launceston of A-Grade through to 3rd Grade in 2021.
In 2018, he was named the inaugural coach of the Greater Northern Raiders Men’s team and held this position for two seasons before returning to coach Launceston Cricket Club.
His coaching career has also involved work in the Emerging Tigers, having coached various groups of players in the north of the state since 2016, and has been the female pathways coach at the start of the 2023-24 season.
Head of Talent and Development at Cricket Tasmania, Greg Hechter, discussed his excitement in Gower starting in the role.
“Andy was a great choice for this position considering his experience with working with northern cricketers through the pathways space.
“He will provide our talent with the necessary support and leadership to help drive the development of our female cricketers in the north of the state,” stated Hechter.
The Wilson Homes Cricket Tasmania Premier League starts again this season on Saturday 5 October, with the Women’s 1st Grade competition on Sunday 6 October.
